Please Stop
I have been exploring how to put my feelings down on paper through my art. This has been an interesting adventure since I have no idea what may come of it. This one I called "Please Stop", it can be interpreted in many ways depending on the viewer. Make your own conclusion and tell me about it!

Puppet Show!
I wanted to make a puppet that resembled Evita Perón. I knew what she was going to look like, I just didn't know how to make her. I didn't want to look for "how to's" online because I didn't want to be influenced. So, here I was with an idea and no instructions... YES!!!
I bought a bunch of materials and and got started!
I wanted Evita to have a *spark* in her eyes so I used a doll's eyes that opened and closed (gasp!). Not the right color because dolls with open/close eyes are difficult to come by.
I wanted her to have a soft body, so I started by making a hand puppet.
I made a foam "skull" and placed the eyes in the sockets.
This is the anatomy of puppet Evita!
Sculpy was molded onto the face. Then removed carefully and baked. I made little hands too. The first time the face broke! I made another face and secured it with some foil so that it wouldn't move while it was baking in the oven.
Voilá! Face and hands ready for acrylic paint! I sewed some wire onto the back of the hand puppet as arms to then place the hands.
Treated her to a five star manicure.
Her blazer was made out of sewn felt, and her skirt out of a skirt I bought at a thrift store.
I bought hair extensions at a beauty supply store. Beautiful straight blonde hair. I secured the hairdo with hot glue.
Ladies and gentlemen... straight from Argentina... Evita Perón!
To bring her to life I sang (she sang) the Argentine National Anthem! It was a success! So much fun!

A Self Portrait
This is the progression of a self portrait from observation. I used a mirror to paint myself and that was quite an unusual task. It's strange to look at yourself for so many hours and concentrate on the smallest details of your face. It was an interesting exercise. The end result was a moody almost surreal depiction of myself. I was told I looked like a mermaid. Cool!

Breakup Movie
The task was to create an animation based on drawings. I used the drawings from my Anatomy of a Breakup piece. I added The Beatles' I'm So Tired song because it was a perfect way to add exactly what was being felt. It was a huge learning process to animate these but I am satisfied with the result.

Anatomy Of A Breakup
I created a series called Anatomy Of a Breakup. I used ink, acrylic and watercolor. This is one of four. My idea was to illustrate the physical feeling of the rupture of a relationship. Where it's felt in your body. The pain, discomfort and fear. I am in the process of animating these pieces and making them interact with each other.

Frida, Diego and Ink
I have been playing around with ink and I'm enjoying this new medium. It's so fluid and versatile. I drew Frida and Diego because they inspire me in many ways. I especially identify with Frida being a latino woman. I will be working more with ink because it's so fun! Enjoy!

Being a Bee
I made a honeycomb with my bare hands! I welded metal with care, one by one all the shapes came together. When the shape I wanted was achieved, I spray painted it gold. It came to life instantly! I then cut and glued mylar to add the finishing touches. I was a worker bee making honeycomb!

Come In!
Have a seat, take out a blank canvas and start painting! This is a peek at my painting class at PNCA. I had to wait until the nude model had stepped away to take the photo! It's so amazing to be surrounded by so much talent!

Three D
In 3D we had to choose an object and build something using only that object. I chose yellow straws. I picked only the yellow ones out of packs of multi colored straws. The tips were cut diagonally from small to large. I glued and glued until I could not glue anymore. This swirly, twirly, hanging piece is the end result. It is over eight feet tall and hangs from the ceiling with clear fishing wire.

PNCA 5th Annual Benefit Art Auction
What a lucky girl! I volunteered for the PNCA 5th Annual Art Auction on February 22, 2013. It was so exciting to be involved in such a big event. There were so many beautiful pieces up for auction and so many bidders! The who's who of Portland was there and they emptied their wallets to benefit PNCA's scholarship program. Delicious food and cocktails were abundant. I met so many wonderful people. It was such a great night!

New Beginnings

One of the biggest regrets I had in life was not going to art school. It was a dark cloud looming over my head. Sometimes that cloud could get pretty stormy. One day I decided to go for it! That was the beginning of a wonderful adventure of self exploration and discovery. I started in the fall and am now navigating my second term. What a journey! I have been let loose in a world of imagination, creativity and magic.
